The placename is Thorniethwaite. These days it is a farm and a couple of cottages - not very different from what is shown on your map.

Hello everybody,

Thanks to all for the great contributions, now that I have established where "Thorniwhat" is I would like to keep this thread going.

You will all notice that I have re-named the Subject line from "Thorniwhat ? in Lochmaben" to "Bell / Taggart - Thorniethwaite, Lochmaben"

For many years now, I have hit many "Bell" brick walls for my g, g, g, grandfather Walter Bell (Annan), spouse Margaret Aitkin (Hutton and Corrie/Kirkpatrick-Fleming).

So, this search interest is a new and fresh outlook for another possible link to my "Bell" ancestors ::)

The facts for this new possibility are as such -

Lochmaben OPR film in the Ewart Library.

William Bell 23rd November 1788 son to James Bell and Jannet Tagart spouse in Thorniwhat

John Bell 5th July 1792 son to James Bell and Jannet Tagart spouse in Thorniwhat

I6  In memory of Jane Taggart spouse to James Bell, Bonshawside who died 22nd March 1813 aged 47 years. Also the said James Bell who died at Firparknook 1st January 1834 aged 71 years. Also Margaret Bell their daughter who died in Firparknook 17th March 1829 aged -0 years. And David Bell son of William Bell --- in Roseiries who died 26th July 183-? ---- Stone badly flaked.

Any more help for this Bell family would be greatly appreciated.
