George MORRIS, ex the Portsea, was 29 as per Convict Indent for that voyage arriving 18 Dec 1838, Read and Write, a Married man, 2 sons, one daughter, born Norfolk, a Shoemaker, Tried for stealing shoes, Trial at Northampton Assizes, 27 Feb 1837, no previous convictions.  Sentenced to Life,  was 5 ft 6 ¼” Ruddy complexion, Brown Eyes, Brown Hair,  Mole on left cheek, another over left eyebrow, scar on back of fore finger and knuckle of left thumb.

Can you confirm the migration details for George's son GEORGE please

Betsy the mother b 1811
Alice 1835
George 1831
Jesse 1830

Looks like dear old dad was serving a bit of time ::) ::)

 :)  Are you sure that your George was a brother to Jesse and a son of George and Elizabeth?   Is that information from your George's marriage certificate?

Arr found you a convict haven't they. You say the Grafton Crowd are yours?
Dont know what happened to Betsy (elizabeth) she isn't on the 1851 census, possibly died and this caused all the kids to come out. Gee it would have been nice to have some of their correspondence. :-\
Alice may have married in Newcastle to a John Scott 1852 and he may have died the next year with no issue. There are sveral more marriages but cannot work out which is hers if any. My try going sideways again and see if anything turns up.
I think she would have headed north with the Bro's?

No, but by 1878 males aged 21 and over were basically lining up to make sure they were enrolled.  Some minor qualifications, (length of time at the one address etc) but basically Male Universal suffrage existed in NSW.  Some exceptions eg Members of the Police force were not entitled to enrol (They actively did the rounds and collected the names for the rolls).

It is possible George snr died Grafton 1869 ref# 3844/1869
There are three possible George Jnr deaths all in Sydney? Need an initial for middle name? Whoops George H St leonards ref # 18644/1923
