Thank you to both of you.  I still don't seem to be able to pinpoint which is the correct family - if any.  My Grandfather
Peder Pedersen Moller was born in 1883 and doesn't appear to show up.  I have a photo showing 'Tante Johanna'  (phonetic) in a nurses uniform/red cross - who I presume was an aunt?  I see that there is a similar name in Aghadowney's post.

I have tried using the web-site suggested but find it rather hard to use - is it worth ordering the CD mentioned I wonder?

Again, thanks for all the help,

Your grandfather was born in 1883 so won't appear in 1880 census.

Think the site takes a bit of practice to get use to so don't give up yet. Sometimes best to search for just first names and scroll through the results.

I found I got results when I typed Møller rather than Moller. You can find the Danish letters in Character Map. Also use wildcards as described in the panel on the right of the search page to cover spelling variations like Peder/Peter.

I am confident that the family I found in 1880 is correct. I just looked up Peder Pedersen's birth/baptism and his parents Rasmus and Christin? Pederine Sørensen were in the same street then, but at no. 33.

I can't read all of Peder's birth record but it looks as if he was baptised at home on 27Aug. 1884, and then there is a second date, 24 May 1885. One of the godparents/witnesses was Johanne Møller, who is probably the Ane Johanne Møller of the 1870 census, and therefore a sister to Peder.
I think Rasmus is a miller (møllermand). Does that fit what you know? The census described him as a Hjulmaand, which Google can't translate and I don't have a dictionary to hand as I'm away from home at present.

Many, many thanks Isabel.  My grandfather was baptised on 24th May 1885 but I have his birth as Peder Pedersen (DOB 07.10.1883)  I will look for the photo that I think must be Johanne and post it.  I really have no other information other than his marriage in Scotland and details from then on.  I spent hours last night but obviously have not worked out how to work the Danish web-site, will try your advise now.

I hope that you and Aghadowney realise how much this has meant!!

If the family I found in 1880 is correct, this looks like Pederine with her parents in Fregerslev, Skanderborg.
On the DDD "Search for Individuals" page, enter Skanderborg in the Counties box, and the name Pederine Sørensen. You should get the two entries for 1845 and 1850.

Also in the household is Anders Petersen-Møller age 3 born Hørning

He was born on 10 April 1877 and bap. 3 June 1877 in Hørning, where Rasmus was miller. Pederine was aged 35.

Rasmus & Pederine also had twin daughters b. 19 Apr. 1875 in Hørning, Kirstine and Petrea.  Petrea d. 15 July 1877 in Hørning.

The family I found in Tulstrup in 1870 is a different one.

I am getting confused by the same names turning up in different places.  Before I look any further, or pass on more of what I've found, I'd like to check that I've got the basic information correct.

Your grandfather, Peder Pedersen Møller, came to Scotland (when?) and married here. His parents were Rasmus Pedersen Møller and Pederine Sørensen who remained in Aarhus.
Are the birth/bap. certs. you have the originals (i.e. are you absolutely sure of where and when?).  Does Peder's marr. cert. give his father's occupation?  If he was a miller or mill hand we are on the right track.
