Hi,  I am trying to find out how to get hold  of a birth / baptism  certificate/ record for an ancester of mine.
He was a John O'Brien  born July 1862  in Ballybacon parish or Ardfinnan  he was catholic.
His parents were a Michael and Brigid.

Hi as you might know civil registration began in ireland in 1864 so a baptism record is your option.
www.rootsireland.ie is worth a search not sure if Tipperary county is covered.
I presume you are aware that john o brien enlisted in the army in 1880 age 18yrs.His address on enlistment record given as ballybacon Nr cahir co tipperary

I was just trying to find out how I could get hold of his baptism record.

Shane,   Can someone just tell me how a can get a copy of his baptism ?

Two options - either visit the National Library and view the film number mentioned in the previous post, or join the website mentioned above to see if they have a transcript.

RootsIreland is a subscription website (pay-per-view), so we are not allowed to do look ups.
