William Harry Trehaeven
« on: Monday 23 July 12 15:41 BST (UK) »
Am looking for information on William Harry, born 26 February 1888, died 1965 Kimberley.  Believe he was in the SA Infantry in 1920

William was married to Dorothy Elizabeth Persse b 1899 Alverstoke, died 1967 Kimberley.  I cannot find a record of the marriage but their first son was born 1923 in Alverstoke, the second son two years later in SA.

I believe that William might have been one of the many Cornishmen who went to SA to seek their fortune but cannot find a William Harry Trehaeven in Cornwall in 1891 or other Trehaevens.  Maybe they changed their surname spelling when arriving in SA.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank you Trevor for your help.  Yes that Mrs D Trehaeven and son Brian fits in, also the fact that she pre deceased her husband.

The William you mentioned b 1931 is brother to Brian, and another brother Desmond.

I believe that at sometime William Harry Trehaeven lived in an 'area' in SA called Somerset, or owned by a Lord Somerset, and this name was added to the family name.

Any other information would be gratefully received.

this is a funny one all round really, only when you do a census search just using trehaeven nothing shows up but using trehaven theres 1 in london in 1871 and 8 all in one family in 1861 no other censuses have any , i appreciate it,s an unsual name but you,d think a little bit more consistency would be the order of the day . also i can,t make out why we can,t find a passenger record for william .
can you give me your sources of detail you have for all of this please

Tmo

Where did you find the Trehaven in 1861 census, I have looked on my A....y site and cannot find.  After my last posting wonder if the family with 8 you mentioned were off to SA??

Again thank you for your time

It would appear that the name can also be shown as 'Treleavan'
