Capt Jock,

Yes I wondered about that myself, though both parishes seem to have been in existence at that time (1790). Perhaps the parish boundary was changed at some time. Another possible explanation, and one I have come across several times myself, is that Donaghcloney parish church was temporarily closed eg repairs, and so the nearest adjacent parish church was used instead.

With Banoge being right on the border with Magheralin, as Shane helpfully pointed out, I am pretty certain I have the answer to my puzzle.

there's a mention in Lewis 1837 of Tithes for 4 Donaghcloney townlands being paid to Magheralin parish ... might be related to earlier boundary changes..

see : Magheralin parish

I know this is an old post, but am researching two families (McAfee and O'Neil).  Henry McAfee and Eliza O'Neil both indicate they are from Banoge when they marry in Donaghcloney in 1845.  Wonder if either of these names are of interest.

Marriage record in 1845 indicates that the Presbyterian minister Jas Moorhead wrote Banagh as their residence at time of marriage.

The link in Gaffy’s reply #4 no longer works…..here’s an updated one for Banoge!
