Matthew Plant b. 1804 Swynnerton
« on: Monday 30 July 12 18:00 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a baptism and parents for Matthew Plant, who married Ann Dain at Haughton parish church in 1830 and lived at Ashton Farm north of Eccleshall.

In all censuses he gave year of birth as 1804 and place of birth either Swynnerton or Yarnfield. I've looked in the (downloadable PDF) register copies for St Mary Swynnerton, and there is no baptism there for a Matthew Plant around 1804.

When Matthew married Ann Dain, one of the witnesses was a George Plant. At Ashton Farm in 1841, in addition to Matthew's wife and children, there was a Matthew Plant born approx. 1781, so old enough to be his father. I can't find any other references to this older Matthew Plant in census or Free BMD deaths after 1841.

Apart from St Mary Swynnerton, what other church baptisms in that area could I try?

 :) Barbara

Thanks very much to Victor for very helpful burial info.  :D

Still seeking a baptism for Matthew born 1804; also possible whereabouts in 1851 of Matthew Plant born c. 1781 and Thomas Plant born c. 1816, who were listed at Ashton Farm in 1841 along with my Matthew and his wife/children.

Hi Jacquelineve,

I have seen that entry and I would love that Matthew to be the father of Matthew b. 1804, especially as he has sons called George and Thomas and he's in Yarnfield.

It all looks so good; the only niggle is that in 1841, Matthew Plant is with sons Hyla, George and Thomas at Woods Eaves, and my Matthew has this other elderly Matthew Plant with him at Ashton Farm  ???
So I don't know - are there two elderly Matthew Plants, or could there be just the one that's been counted twice in 1841?
