Urban PARR from Burwell
« on: Wednesday 01 August 12 09:52 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm researching a WW1 casualty with the Australian Army. He is buried in Belgium (Tyne Cot cemetery). I know he was born in Burwell (Cambs) on   the 5th  of April 1889. I am looking for information on his family in England. He probably emmigrated in or around 1910.

Best Regards,

Koyli

Hi just love the name Urban! Just wondered who the Urban Parr was who  departed Liverpool for Portland USA on the 27th May 1913 on the Franconia, on same voyage were a Frances Geo Parr aged 17 and a Walter S Parr, maybe no connection at all but the combination of forename/surname left me puzzled!?

Hello again,

I would like to thank Rosie99  and Selina for their time and effort. The amount of detail is incredible.
As for Keyboard86 I fear that it's not the same person. My Urban would have gone to his destination the other way round I presume. I wonder is there any way I could find out where and when he embarked for Australia?

Best Regards

Koyli.

There are some details which may be of interest, including the first marriage of Urban's father, on here
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~monroecounty/ppm/pafg07.htm

I see from another site that Urban Parr used an alias - William Barry, is it possible that he left this country under that name?

Selina

Added:  information from the site to which the above link refers would, of course, need verifying.

Hi Selena,

Thank you for the link.

Yes Urban used an alias after he had deserted from the australian Army, in which he had enlisted under his real name in 1915. In order to re-enlist without being found out he used the alias of Barry. So I'm fairly sure the alias was only used after 1915.
