jam factory in liverpool, Hyton with Roby
« on: Thursday 02 August 12 22:10 BST (UK) »
Does anyone remember a jam factory, called Clock Tower or something similar in Liverpool,in the 1950s.
Probably in Hyton with Roby,
Looking for a Jane Jones who was the daughter of the manager there.
How many Jane Jones were there in Liverpool then with a Jones father from Wales, too many to follow!!!!
So if someone does remember it will be a great help

Think there was a jam factory in Long Lane  in Aintree it became a biscuit factory either Jacobs or Crawfords ,the building had a clock tower over the main entrance .
My mind went blank   It was Hartleys jam factory, in 1973 I worked as an alarm engineer for Securitas alarms part of Group 4 security and our office was in Hartley Ave ,using Hartleys old offices .I think they also made jam in the biscuit works previously.

Hartleys was the only jam factory I remember in Liverpool and that is the one mentioned by clwyd2 above

Hartley's was established in 1868.

Nelson's Preserving Co Limited was also on Long Lane.

The labels on the jars had a picture of a clock tower and I am sure that it was not Hartleys.
Are there business directories available anywhere that I could look up

I believe that it was clock tower,
Owner/manager   Humphrey or John Jones, one went from Caernarvonshire to Liverpool and the other to South Africa.
