Papplewick births, 17-18 century
« on: Sunday 05 August 12 18:52 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to clarify a family in Papplewick in the late 1600s- early 1700s. The adults were married there but the only baptisms I can find (for the next generation down) were at Hucknall Torkard.

There are no Papplewick baptisms on the Notts FH cd. Were baptisms carried out at Papplewick in those days?
Bradbury (Sedgeley, Bilston, Warrington)
Cooper (Sedgeley, Bilston)
Kilner/Kilmer (Leic, Notts)
Greenfield (Liverpool)
Holyland (Anywhere and everywhere, also Holiland Holliland Hollyland)
Pryce/Price (Welshpool, Liverpool)
Rawson (Leicester)
Upton (Desford, Leics)
Partrick (Vera and George, Leicester)
Marshall (Westmorland, Cheshire/Leicester)

There are 2622 baptisms at Papplewick on the Notts FHS CD. Who are you looking for?

The Nottinghamshire Archives hold microfiche of the registers from 1662, and Bishops Transcripts from 1627.

Thanks - Looking for baptisms with the surname Sprey or Spray (or any other poss spellings!)

In particular Samuel "of Papplewick" who married at Beeston in 1694; Catherine who married Joseph Curtis in Papplewick in 1718; and Ann who married George Toundra in Papplewick in 1700. These appear to have been siblings (info from a will) and I'd like to find the father's name and any other sibs.

Here they are...

Papplewick St James baptisms
13 Apr 1669 - Anne dau of George & Hanna SPRAY
-- Jan 1672 - Samuel son of George & Hanna SPRAY

I can't see any other Spray baptisms at Papplewick.

Many thanks   :)

The will in question (Samuel's, died 1742 or 3) namechecked other Spreys in Beeston, Basford, Hucknall - so now just have to try to see what the links are!  :)
