Thank you for your helpful comments. I will ask my dad to fill out the next of kin forms. Will it be a major problem that I have no idea what my granfather's service number was?

Hi, it may take slightly longer, but you have a name, date of birth, his address at the time he joined, that should be a good starting point. It will be the time it takes to sift through the names that match though, his number would have made a lot easier. Good Luck, hope it works out. Lowanslow.
