Yes, I suppose I will have to!!  Although I'm not too concerned about proving he's who I think he is, I'm fairly certain without that documentation ... lol well you know what I mean!!  What bugs me is where did he go?? Where did his family go?? grrrrr....

There is a slim chance he went to the USA but I haven't been able to find any records to corroborate that.  The main reason I think that is that because one of his nephews, another Henry, who called himself Harry, went to the USA in 1899, on his port entry (ship manifest??) document it stated that he was 'visiting an Uncle' or something like that.  Trouble is, I don't know which Uncle!!!  Oh, btw, it's not really likely that Ishmail would have called himself Henry as he had a brother Henry!!  Just to confuse things... Although if he did go to the States, he could have easily called himself Henry there I suppose...

 ??? :)

A possible emigration to the USA is well worth chasing up. I'm not sure how you would go about doing this - maybe start a new thread on the USA board, or the common room? If you do, post a link to this thread to prevent any duplication of effort.

Last night I even tried to find Ishmail in a later census in case he was just missing from a couple of earlier ones, but I couldn't find him. Both names are open to error of course, but I did try fairly broad searches. Still, someone else may be able to find him, maybe using Find My Past rather than Ancestry .....  :-\

On the bar at the top of the page, click on "Welcome"
Scroll to the bottom of the page where you will see all the boards
The USA board is on the left, three down from the top.

People with a FInd My Past subscription can sometimes pick up people who cannot be found on censuses on Ancestry.

It's been a long time since I've been here.... just thought I'd post a sliver of information I found.  Through contact with another member of the Ticehurst family we have discovered, and are pretty certain, that Ishmael did indeed go to the US and went by the name of (if I'm remembering correctly) George Ticehurst.

Cheers,

and have a merry christmas everyone!! :)
