Hi Langwell

You query is very specific. Is it connected with this:

Russell, both dec. He died aged 82 of terminal pneumonia, the informant being a friend, Vera M B Williamson of Glenglass, Bundshaugh?, Forres;

Hi

I am trying to establish if this residence was a Nursing Home and if so who owned it.
A relative of mine, a bachelor, died there on 12th March 1960 and then two days later a lady, spinster, died there.
Now we have the death of a third person that same week.
My relatives usual residence was Brora, Sutherland, but had no one to look after him when he became terminally ill and I am not sure what provision was made at that time for people such as he.

Found this:

....But that's another story, I'm sure.

It's for the same reason that inmates of Craig Dunain Hospital never died
there, but instead died at 1A Leachkin Road, Inverness.

A general google of the history of Craig Dunain Hospital makes grim reading (as reading about many of these old hospitals can  :-\).

No wonder I find ancestry research so difficult when this sort of thing happens!
I would never have guessed he was in Craig Dunain, as the cause of death on death certificate was Myocardial Degeneration.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Jean

Just to confirm what Monica found - an ancestor of mine was known to have died in Craig Dunain Hospital in 1955 (she had dementia). However when I checked her death entry she's listed as dying at "1a Leachkin Road" and the causes of death are listed as diabetes, arteriosclerosis and pneumonia - there's no mention of the hospital or her dementia!

Best wishes

Hi

Find it hard to understand why a death certificate isn't totally accurate.
One is often asked if there is a history of certain illnesses in the family and sometimes we can only tell by checking family certificates.
This topic has certainly been a learning curve for me.
Thanks.  This is a great site.

Fascinating indeed.
Thank you for this whole thread everyone - I'm the Lornahen who posted the death cert. details quoted above - and would never have even known that it wasn't a residence without this thread.
Now I need a timescale of development for Craig Dunain to determine what it was like in 1960!!

Regards
Lorna
