Bride was called Elizabeth and both parties gave Kirby as their birthplace on later census information.

Found the following in the Kirby marriage register at Essex Record Office.

16/5/1846 John Southgate of full age bachelor labourer of Kirby le Soken father John Southgate  labourer married Elizabeth Grant minor spinster of Kirby le Soken father Thomas Grant labourer. Both John and Elizabeth made their mark, witnesses were George Webb (made his mark) and John Phipps signed his name.
