Searching for a "needle in a haystack"
« on: Wednesday 25 May 05 20:14 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone could help and give me some guidance of where to look to start tracing an ancestor who my mother casually tells me "went to Austrailia".  As I live in England - any useful websites would be appreciated.

Walter George Johnson born 1851 in Cauton/Beesthorpe, Nottinghamshire, England.  He is on the England 1881 Cenus living with his parents and an occupation of Leading Fireman.  He was not married.  I cannot trace him on the 1891 Census, and therefore assume he emigrated in that 10 year time span.  I appreciate there is a lack of information here, but wonder if anyone could give me some idea of how to start looking for him.

Thanks

Hi Goughy

Can you give us Walter's parents names.
Some Australian records can be searched by parent.

The following website has links to different australian sites.
