silk works - Langley Macclesfield
« on: Friday 17 August 12 20:32 BST (UK) »
James Slack born in 1824 lived  in Cockhall Lane Sutton Macclesfield, and worked for Mr Whiston who had a silk mill in langley.  Does anyone know if there are any records in existance of the men who worked there around 1860/70, or any photographs of the men working.  I am hoping that there will be a photo of James somewhere.   Incidentally Cockhall Lane used to be called Dirty Lane, and the cottages where James & his wife Margaret lived were owned by the mill owner Mr Whiston, as was nearly all Langley & Sutton.

James Slack b 1824 d 1898   buried ????
Father James Slack  b & d ????????
The 1841 & 61 census states that James jnr was born inb Norbury Staffs and all the rest say he was born in Widborclough.  I am now at a loss and have hit the wall.      Help please ???

"Widborclough"  will be Wildboarclough which is on the Cheshire/Staffs border: http://www.wildboarclough.co.uk/

Norbury is the other end of Staffordshire tho so it does sound confusing
Wainwright - Yorkshire
Whitney - Herefordshire
Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all
