Hi Stoop
There are a couple of places in Riddlesden marked 'Hall' on my A-Z. These are separate from East Riddlesden Hall. One is near the canal at West Scott Lane and the other is off Ilkley Road at Bank Top.

Hi Dave thanks for the two possible locations of New Hall, I wish I knew the area and would take the next step in finding out. stoop.

It is extremely unlikely to be East Riddlesden Hall as the property was empty during most of the 1920s awaiting demolition - fortunately the Keighley Mayor and his brother bought it from the builder and donated it to the National Trust .

There is a book in Keighley Library which lists all the tenants in the hall so I can check that out even if for the purposes of elimination. During the 19th and early 20th C the hall had been divided into separate "apartments" which were in fact very small one or two room units and extremely basic.

There was also a West Riddlesden Hall, now demolished

Thanks Mavals, as you write it is a process of elimination, I should let you know some of the background to the search. My great uncle Joe as he was normally addressed lived at New Hall when he was married I presume with his parents Arthur and Sarah, that is if they were both still alive. It is possible that Nellie his sister still lived at home. I thank you for your continuing efforts and believe that it will result in me knowing much more about the family. Regards Roger.

Have you located the family on the 1901 or 1911 census? I am struggling to locate them

I have checked the book at the library and no one of the name Smith ever lived there from late 1790s onwards

Hi Mavals I am thinking that the address of Joseph ie. New Hall perhaps related to a name that the Smith family gave to sound important. stoop( r)
