James Turner
« on: Wednesday 22 August 12 19:00 BST (UK) »
Hi all!

I'm trying to locate my Great Grandfather James Turner on the 1911 census and have found nothing so far! I have looked on Scotlands people and wasted a lot of credits looking up people that weren't him! I was just wondering whether there was any easy way of getting around this or will I have to just keep looking and wasting credits?!!!
Also the thing is i am not 100% sure if he was still in Scotland in 1911. He enlisted in 1914 and married in London in 1915 but was living in Earlston, Berwickshire in the 1901 census. I know you should never assume however I would imagine he left scotland when he enlisted and was posted down south. He was a bachelor when he married in 1915 and all of the James Turners I have found on the 1911 census so far were married. I have also searched the English 1911 census but to no avail! I hope somebody can help!

and married in London in 1915

The nearest to his profile on the free English 1911 index is b 1879 Scotland and living in St George in the East London.  Have you already viewed and discounted that entry?

I have had a quick look at that entry and I don't it is him unfortunately. The age, place of birth and Occupation don't match but I will definitely keep it in mind! Thank you for your input!

Hi!
I'm not sure where he enlisted! All I have is his medal card and it doesn't state the place just the date!

Wel I have an eventful day today!
I have managed to find Marriage and or death records for all but one of James' siblings, however I still can't find James!! He seems to have disappeared!!! I have looked up both Scottish and English records and nothing! I'm a beginner really so I have no idea how to look up military records I have only managed to find his medal card so far.
Another thing that did puzzle me though was James had a brother called William who died unmarried in 1942 and the informant was his Niece an E Wilson. So far I have found that two of his sisters married and none to a Wilson. Two sisters married one to a Linton and one to a Gill, one died at 26 unmarried and another died unmarried. One sister I can't find a marriage or death record for but I searched for her marrying a Wilson and no results! Am I missing something here?!! Many thanks in advance for your help!
