Does his marriage record give his number or regiment?

It states A.S.C (?) and baker but I know from his medal card his number was s1/4278. It says he was in R.A.S.C 7/fld:bky. I'm ashamed to say I don't know what all that means!

Oh thanks Monica! That certainly seems to fit! He was a baker by trade in all of the census entires I have actually found him on!
He is the man who started all of this off! I found a medal with James Turner engraved on the back and asked who it was and no one knew!  This horrified me so I started looking and here I am today! I would love to find out all about him! My middle name is James and apparently that's after him!!

What medal do you have for him?  The WW1 medals had the name on the rim with the service number not on the back. Did it have his number on the medal? If not, how do you know you have the right medal card for him?  We wouldn't want you to be following up the wrong chap ;)

Hello!
Milly - I don't have the medal on me right now but I'm certain it had his number on the back! Will have to check that though!
Sancti - that video is really interesting! It's certainly not how I imagined it to be :-/ Thank you very much for sharing that!
