Metropolitan Police
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 13:03 BST (UK) »
Hello

Is there anywhere I can see records of the Met?

My ancester is quoted in the 1851 census as working for the Metropolitan Police
can't find him in the 1861 census
Then in the 1871 census he is listed as 'armless'

Would love to know what happened, if he lost his arms in the line of duty, and basically anything about his service in the Met.

Thanks in advance.

I should really learn to search a site more before asking silly questions.   As soon as I sent this I saw the great post in the Resources section, so I'll start there :)
