Strachan Parish and Kirk Sessions Minutes
« on: Friday 24 August 12 06:53 BST (UK) »
I have a JOhn Reid baptised 16th March 1793 at Kincardine O'Neil.  The Parish records state he was the son of John Reid and his wife Elizabeth Collie.  But this couple never actually married and on John Reid's death certificate, down at the bottom of the cert. it states he was illegimate.
On the death cert it states his father was John Reid, farmer, and mother Elizabeth Collie, domestic servant.  There is no mention that she was Elizabeth reid, maiden name Collie, which verifies they did not marry.
John Reid, born 1793, marries in Banchory Ternan and dies there.
Has anyone access to the Strachan Kirk Session Minutes, as I did find the birth of an Elizabeth Collie in 1773 in Strachan.  There also appears to be Reids in Strachan, although Reid is a very common name. I just wondered if perhaps this couple were taken before the elders of the Kirk, but why on earth would they have their son baptised in Kincardine O'Neil.  Any help would be very much appreciated.
