births in Portobello
« on: Friday 24 August 12 19:30 BST (UK) »
I'm a bit of a novice as regards researching in Scotland.
Can anyone tell me how to go about finding a birth or baptism record for about 1836 in Portobello?
Are records available on-line?
The families I'm looking for are Bambrough and Brown.

There is a Bambury family (James, Agnes, +4) living in Gilmerton in 1841.  (FreeCen)

Brown is one of the commonest names in the Edinburgh area.

Baptism for Catherine ?

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NJSK-JFP

Official registration started in 1855 in Scotland , so there maybe no record of a birth/baptism for Elizabeth Bambrough

Thanks for pointers so far.
The folk I'm looking for are:
Jonas Bamborough b.1836 Portobello, fthr Jonas glassmaker. Jonas jn has relocated (back?) to Newcastle by the 1850's.
Also, Jonas jn's wife and her family: Elizabeth Brown b.1837 Portobello, fthr William b. Scotland 1801 potter + mthr Margaret b.1801 Scotland- the Brown's had moved to N/castle by 1851.
I feel the Browns were Scots but that the Bamboroughs were Geordies who went to Portobello to work in the glassmaking industry.
All help welcome,
