clara letitia baldridge and a caithness soldier?
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 22:23 BST (UK) »
My grt grt grandad james sutherland b 20.10.1842was from caithness, scotland, but ended up marrying clara letitia baldridge b approx 1842 derry. family folklore says he met her whilst serving in the army in ireland, but they married in 1868 in manchester, england, and he was a journeyman tailor then. cd find neither of them in england in 1861 census, but think he MAYhave been the lodging apprentice tailor b latheron elsewhere in caithness away from his family still in latheron, where they all remained. Does anyone know whether a caithness boy could have ended up soldiering in derry, OR whether clara l baldridge came to manchester england for another reason previously, or ANYTHING which may solve this puzzle?
