John Savage Help Please
« on: Sunday 26 August 12 18:47 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I am just wondering if you could help me with a relative of mine who is appearing to be a pain to find.

The information I have is that his parents are Thomas (gooch) Savage and Sarah Sutton
The gentleman I am interested in is John Savage believed to be born around 1825, who had a child called thomas savage born 1844/1845.
The families tended to stay around neatishead area of norfolk.

I have tried every search I can think of and have not been able to find him, and I live two and half hours away from norfolk so for me to go to the registry office is a bit difficult at the minute.

If anyone knows of either another place I can try searching or knows of anyone researching this family, or who is just willing to have a look just encase I have missed something.
I would really really appreciate it, I am having major issues with this generation.

Many Many Thanks
Kelly

Familysearch has this entry......

John Savage baptised 3 Feb 1828 at Catton, Norfolk. Parents shown as Thomas Savage and Sarah Savage.

Could that be him?

Hi Kelly,

I think The Mc has cracked it.

I had a look at the 1851 census for Thomas Savage at Neatishead, and he's shown as a butcher, born Hevingham, and his wife born Buxton - hope it's the right one. Hevingham, Buxton and Catton are all within about a 7 mile radius of each other.

Here's the entry from the Parish Register for Catton, showing that John's father Thomas, was a butcher.  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11547-65997-79?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-3MX:n1237430066

Hi again,

Thomas and Sarah Sutton married in Hevingham, in 1820 - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11709-25251-42?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-QVZ:656869516

I don't want to "overload" you with information, as you may well want to search yourself.

The Registers for Hevingham, Buxton, Catton and Neatishead are all available to view, for free.
It's a marvellous resource.  Here's the "start" page - just go to the Parish you want, then look at the dates etc, and you're away!

Good luck,
