I think I can help - as I have a copy of a Family tree ghoing back to about 1750...
 
...Today you solved a lifelong mystery for me
My grandfather Dr John Samuel McLean became a doctor because his cousin had died in India whilst working as a doctor there.  I knew the story but had no name for the cousin.  Thank you so much.
My only regret is that my mother Doreen Bird nee McLean died on the 24 august just 3 days after celebrating hjer 100th birthday  She would have been interested to knnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnow all this.

Hi again Rilla  I've sent you a private message but just wanted to say thank you again on here so everyone can see the result of their wonderful help!

Just to explain: With the information I was given here I found my way to an Australian cousin who in turn led me to Rilla, who as you can see is a veritable mine of information. 

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH everyone!  If I have even half as much luck tracking down my Sloan's I shall be a very happy ancestor hunter.

Good question! There most definitely isn't at the front. The house at the side-known as the Rectory, though I've never known of a vicar living there and in fact had a relative in the house for a while-doesn't have much of a garden either. Had thought maybe there might be one behind the church but thinking about it, possibly not.

With Rilla's information I think it's worth having a look at some of the old graveyards in the other churches which fall under Ardcarne Parish. I'm thinking specifically of Cootehall. But when it comes to Boyle I'm still a bit stumped as to where to even look for a Presbyterian/CoI graveyard if it's not near the little church. And it really IS little. Could hold fifty people at most if my memory serves,

Hadn't seen this one and I LOVE little details like this so thank you! I wonder what they were striking about? Three employees seem to have been taken from Sloan's. I would think that was quite a lot for the store. Also love the humor in the article. Only in Ireland!

Now this one I had seen and it's this fire that I reckon took a lot of the family memorabilia. The family home was on three floors above the shop (servants most likely in the little room where I used to stay at the very top when I was a child. I LOVED that little room) The parlour was directly above and I would assume that's where many of the family photographs were kept on display. My hope is that I might find a few in the Herald's archives, which I believe are kept in Roscommon library. It's office (as mentioned in the article) was just 'down the street' and I'm hoping at the very least things like weddings and obituaries will have made it into the paper. I don't think there's any way to check them online 

It was a tough few years for the family after this. A couple of years afterwards they lost John, their eldest son, in India and according to my cousin the letters from the family to his widow were heartbreaking. He has promised to scan and forward them to me and I am bolstering myself for an emotional read.

 BOYLE CHURCH OF IRELAND CHURCHYARD - County Roscommon.  The churchyard is a mile North of the town.

 BOYLE (ASYLINN) CEMETERY - County Roscommon. This cemetery is 2 miles West of the town.



ARDCARN (ST. BEAIDH) CHURCH OF IRELAND CHURCHYARD - County Roscommon. The churchyard is just off the road from Boyle to Carrick-on-Shannon, five miles East of Boyle but there are no g/stones there for your names! Possibly an unmarked grave??
