Am sure this has been answered already but now thinking of buying a Family Tree programme for my Mac.

Which programme do other Mac users prefer and do I need to purchase other stuff to make it work??

I use both Family Tree Maker for Mac 2  and Reunion.

If you have used FTM for windows Id say stay with that otherwise use Reunion.

Of the two I prefer reunion.

Emberley / Emberley Poole Dorset but any in the uk are of interest
Masters Stoford and Barwick Somerset and Poole Dorset
McClelland Liverpool Lancs and Newton Stewart Scotland
Gardiner Egremont Cumberland
Fox Mottisfont  area Hampshire and Devizes Wiltshire
Potts Bishopwearmouth Sunderland

Thanks Sue, I don't have a programme at all, complete novice so have nothing to go on.

At the moment use Open Office on my Mac, oh and Safari on my laptop.

Hi again.

Another thought

Have you started researching your tree.?  Do you have it online somewhere
Do you have access to windows or do you use an  iphone or ipad?. Or the likelihood of buying in the near future
Depending on your answers would give me a better idea of what would suit you best.

Sue, many thanks

Have tree - quite large, hence need to download somewhere secure and independent, on A......y.

Use an iPad as well as laptop.

Does this help?

You might want to have a look at Heredis for the Mac - they also do an app for the ipad.

Which O/S r u using?
If its Snow Leopard Id go with Reunion which can be installed on the mac.
Not certain how much it is now as Im still using reunion 9, Think I paid £60 about 3 years ago.  You could also  run Reunion app on iphone or ipad download through app store £10.49.

There is trial version for Mac although its limited

http://www.leisterpro.com/doc/demo/demo.php

There is also FTM Mac 2

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Family-Tree-Maker-MAC-Mac/dp/B005TGBPNG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346251535&sr=8-1   comes with 6 months premium ancestry subscription

Unfortunately there is no free trial the Ftm mac 2.   The app however for the ipad is free Ancestry.

Although the app takes ages to to download a tree.  I also find FTM very sluggish on OSX Mountain Lion with 8gb of memory.

All in all I would go for Reunion.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Bye the way whatever program you decide to use you will need to download your tree as a gedcom from Ancestry and import the gedcom into whichever program you decide on
