mallaire / russell please help
« on: Wednesday 29 August 12 20:56 BST (UK) »
I am researching a branch of my family that emmigrated to Canada.  The family originated in Bilston  Staffordshire.

Some of the family moved on from Montreal and went to Toronto some went to Hamilton.

Here comes my strange puzzle....

One of the children John Russell goes to visit his sister Mrs Annie Mallaire(nee Russell) in November 1920 at 1314 Grant Avenue, Kenmore Akron Ohio.  The street directories have a Fred Mallaire there with his wife Amelia.  Amelia was born around about the same time as Annie. I was convinced that Amelia was really Annie as She lists both her parents as being in English.  However a number of years later Amelia remarries and names her mother as Harriet Webb,
My Annies Mum was called Harriet but her surname was not Webb, it was Evans.

I cannot find any records for a marriage of Annie Russell to a Mr Mallaire, Birth Records in Bilston for her as Annie or anything pertaining to her after her name appears on the passenger listing when she arrives in Montreal as Annie Russell, or her brother Freds marriage where she is a witness in 1917 then finally the border crossing of her brother John who visits her and names her as his sister Mrs Annie Mallaire of 1314 Grant Ave.

Stuck isnt the word. What became of Annie Mallaire ??

1930 Akron census
Frederick R Mallaire and his wife, Amelia H, are listed with their 4 children.
Also shown living at that address are Charles H Waller, Janet and their two children.  The Wallers were born in Canada.  The Wallers immigrated in 1929.  They are shown as "cousins".  Possibly Amelia's cousins, as she was born in Canada and Frederick was born in Virginia?

Did your Annie have Waller cousins?

Looking at the WWI Canadian Attestation Paper, could this be Charles?
Charles Henry Waller, born Lachine, Quebec.  Harry Waller was his father.

Thanks for this information. However this leads me to more confusion.  We do have a wallett connection to america by marriage.  Annies Aunt married a Thomas Wallett, whos father was American however Annies Aunt died quite early into the marriage. I dont know of any connection in the family as of yet to any Wallers?

more questions!!

On the border crossing Amelia says she was born in Montreal  ???

Border Crossing Canada to USA - Amelia Mallaire. born 1898 Montreal. Quebec. Canada. Port of Arrival: Buffalo, New York, 21 st November 1918. Citizen by marriage.

However, Amelia is living at the 1314 Grant Avenue address that John was going to in 1920.

Coincidence  ???
There is a baptism record in Lachine. Canada for Charles Henry Waller born 8 th May 1897. Unfortunately the name of the father is not quite readable  ::) but it starts Wil  ???
The mother is Emma (Webb) Baptism took place at St Stephens Sunday 4 th July 1897.
