Women Convicts from Ireland 1838
« on: Wednesday 29 August 12 23:22 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have an ancestor who arrived on convict ship Whitby in New South Wales in 1839.  Can anyone tell me how I can find out where she went on arrival in Australia. She had a small child with her.
Many thanks

Hi there.    :)

You can try posting her name and any other information you have about her on here. It could then become easier for someone to point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

ELLEN HARE - WOMAN CONVICT
Arrived in New South Wales in 1839 on the convict ship "Whitby" . Left from Ireland in 1839.  She was a widow and travelled with a small daughter.  I am trying to find out her whereabouts from this point on, any information would be appreciated.  (Thanks Dee).

It seems Ellen Hare received permission to marry another convict, James Mills, who was transported for 14 years,  on 14th Sept 1846 at Campbell Town.

I can't find anything in the NSW BMD index though.   :-\

Ellen evidently received her Ticket of Leave in 1844 and was allowed to remain in the district of Goulbourn.

Any idea of Ellens' parents' names or the name of the child accompanying Ellen.

May not be your Ellen, but there's the death of an Ellen Mills in NSW BMD in 1849, but no parents' names listed. (Church Record) Her age is given as 39.  ???
