"Gunner"
« on: Thursday 30 August 12 12:03 BST (UK) »

Just received my grandfather and grandmother's wedding certificate in the post an on it is written in profession: "Gunner 4130467 RR" I have no idea what that means - can anybody help? Also, where do i go for military records?

Grandfather's name was Francis L K Jerred and the wedding certificate with this info on it is dated 1942.

Thanks for your help in advance :)

Hi

Gunner was his army rank, similar to a Private and the number would be his Service Number.

His military records would still be held by the Ministry of Defence (assuming he was British Army) and the link below has information about applying for his records.
