I can't help you with this query but I have just worked out that my husband's great grandfather, Samuel Beckford, was your grandfather William's brother, and was serving with William but survived. I know this is an old thread but if you pick this up I'd be happy to share any Beckford information I have.
I'm not a frequent user but will try to monitor!
