If you look at the first page of his army record you can see that his number changed a couple of times

Yes, I have noticed the numbers scored out a couple of times. It is hard make out the number as to 690425/690426 yet, I haven't seen the latter anywhere else.

One more question. There has been stamped Scottish National Red Cross General Hospital, Cardonald, Glasgow 15/12/17. Would he have gone there and, why.

Service with 3rd East Lancs Bde from 8/4/15
Transferred to 288 Bde 17/7/16
Posted to 291 Bde 7/2/17
Posted to 2 Depot (T F) 24/4/17

There is a reference on his casualty form B103 to him being received from 293 Bde (into 291 Bde)  but that does not accord with the Statement of Services.

ShaunJ,

Many thanks for that. I can now make some sense of it. I apologize for asking so many questions but it is the only way to find out things. What does  (TF) stand for.

I have just noticed the reference you mention.I wouldn't have made this out, had you not typed it out.

ShaunJ,

It seems when a lad enlisted, they didn't check their ages or,get their parents consent.

I am still trying to find out where my father was in France. My sister seems to think it was the Somme.

Yes I think your sister is right. It would be in the aftermath of the first battle of the Somme, and the time of the retreat of the German army to the Hindenburg line. See this on 58 Division's deployment and battle honours in Spring 1917  http://www.1914-1918.net/58div.htm
