Brooklyn/New York Marriage
« on: Saturday 01 September 12 11:20 BST (UK) »
In about 1890 Thomas Swarbrick, then aged 15 or so, arrived in the United States. In 1905 he was living on Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn with a wife, Alice, and a 3 years old daughter, also Alice. If anyone can supply details of their marriage, presumably between 1900 and 1902, I would be very grateful - especially if those details contained his parent's names.

I have the census information for the rest of his life [1910 US Federal - he died in 1914].

Thanks

Are you sure he died in 1914?  Or did he have a son also called Thomas Swarbrick?

A Thomas Swarbrick married married Marie Hopke on 10 May 1920 in Brooklyn, Kings County, NY [certificate # 5958].

I'm pretty sure - this would seem to be him:

Obituary Notices
New York Times 6th July 1914
THOMAS SWARBRICK a well known restaurant man in the Washington market district, died Friday at his home, 69 Drew Avenue, Woodhaven. Mr Swarbrick came to this country from England thirty-five years ago. He was 41 years old.

He did have a son Thomas, but he was only 13 in 1920 and he went on to be a Catholic priest!

Thanks for the marriage though - I shall now have fun working out who that Thomas was!

The 1914 death is listed on the italiangen.org index under Thomas Swabrick.

There's a mention of an Alice A. Swarbrick selling a piece property on Drew Avenue on www.fultonhistory.com.  The search engine there lists the newspaper as from 1910, but it's hard to read on the actual copy and it looks like it could be 1916.

Thank you for the link to the newspaper site - looks like a good number of Swarbrick hits so I'll have a lot of digging to do over the next few days. The other Thomas who married in 1920 is, I believe, the son of William H and Emily Swarbrick, an iron moulder, who entered the US in 1886. I don't think the two families are connected, but it's early days yet.
