I don't suppose people who write these things are necessarily as meticulous in their search for "the truth" as we may be.  Perhaps he (or his premises) appears in an 1851 directory even though he wasn't exactly flourishing at the date. :)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Thanks Geoff, in that case maybe I can't find the death of one of my husband's ancestors even though he's in a trade directory in 1857, when he could have been dead for a few years.  More work to do there - problem he has a very common Irish name!

This just goes to show, that the failure to update records today is nothing new.

Hi there Lizzie - I am not a relative of John Brand but my family has been in Lincolnshire for many generations . I collect Lincs. chairs and have a private museum for them , I also give talks to interested groups on vernacular furniture .  I hope to photograph the above chair and add it to my web site soon . I am interested in the chairmakers as much as their chairs , would you be able to let me have some extra details on the life of John Brand ??  If you wish to visit my site then type into google : Lincolnshire chair museum , and navigate around the photostream . Do you want my email address ??  Beat wishes William .....
