John Hankins - Victorian Conflict 1857-1899
« on: Monday 03 September 12 22:34 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for someone with access to Forces War Records that would be willing to look up a record for John Hankins. There is a record dated 1893 that is listed under Victorian Conflicts and I wondered if it showed where the John Hankins came from?

My John Hankins was born in 1857 in Crondall, Hampshire.

Many thanks in advance.

Does the 1893 reference give a regiment? His service record does not appear to have survived and there are a number of J Hankins in the medal rolls on Ancestry. Without a regiment it will be difficult to go further.

Did he have any children born in exotic places?

Ken

The record does not appear on Ancestry as far as i could see, i'm not sure if they have the victorian wars on there? I'm still learning about the site.

I found the record on Forces War Records. It doesn't say a regiment. I have no further information about John Hankins other than he was born in Crondall 1857 to William and Lucy. He vanishes after 1871, though I have found a possible record for 1881. He's a tricky one because he has a cousin born in 1858 in Crondall and there is also a John Hawkins born in 1858 from Ewshott/Crondall area that are not to be mixed up with him. I can't find anything else therefore I was checking war records to see if he had died in a war.

I'm still new to all this so I appreciate any help, thank you.

It cannot be the same man then.
