Ada Kilpatrick - Winnipeg/Canada
« on: Tuesday 04 September 12 13:53 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to assist a friend with her research.

She has a family member Ada Ashford who she believes went to Canada after 1881.  She was born in Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire around 1862.

My friend is unsure as to whether she was single when she travelled although her family members recall her being married and known as Ada Kilpatrick when she returned to England around 1920.  She believes that she returned to Canada shortly thereafter and may have died there around 1929.

Sorry about the limited information although any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

TB

Found this on Find a Grave website ...

Maybe worth contacting the cemetery for more details.

It appears that the Ada Priscilla found was buried in 1951

I didn't see an Ada Kilpatrick listed.

I cannot view further details (perhaps someone else may)
Canadian passenger list
Ada Jane Kilpatrick, born c1863, England
Sailed to (or from?) the UK in 1926.

Perhaps clues may be found on the passenger list?  It also may be possible to determine if this person was the Ada for whom you are looking.

Possibly no connection to the above Ada Jane (too young), but mentioning it anyway:

Hi Lisa

The Ada Jane Kilpatrick from the passenger list sounds very likely.  I understand that Ada Ashford went by the name of Ada Jane.  This is great news.

Can anyone view the actual record to provide further details to assist our search for what happened to Ada Jane Ashford.

We have her on the UK 1881 census although are not sure when she got married or when she travelled to Canada.  We do however believe that she died in Canada and so a burial would be very nice.  Did Canada have census'?

Thanks again for your help and time - much appreciated.

Ada Jane Kilpatrick, aged 63, arrived Vancouver, B.C. 23rd Jul 1926 on the "NIAGRA" from SYDNEY.

It says she was born Birmingham, and is a cook at the Canadian Women's Hostel, Canada.         It also says she had previously been in Canada from 1910 to 1926.       Her nearest relative is: T. Ashford, 30 Dufring St, Pengrim, South Wales.

A place Reddker Alta is mentioned.       Don't know where that is.

Great find!

Could it possibly be Red Deer, Alberta?

Update:  Thank you, Sandra.  Clears up the Alberta issue.  ;)
