Lichfield probate, 1820
« on: Saturday 08 September 12 16:28 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone could find details of the probate of the will of John Pitman (or Pittman) at Lichfield in 1820, please? John was from Stow-on-the-Wold, Glos, and I have a copy of the will and probate from Gloucester (1785). However, I have now found a document which states that this will was also probated in Lichfield in 1820, and I'm hoping the probate information will help me track a family member or two.

If anyone is able to help I will be most grateful.

Jane

Two years after making my request, and no-one has been able to help so far. Just bringing it to your attention again in case there's someone who can help.

Thanks, Jane

Hi.  I'm currently on holiday but will be returning to UK early October.  I have to visit Lichfield archives on my return, so I'll add your search at the same time - unless of course someone else takes up the challenge.  ;D

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Can I take it you have contacted Lichfield Record Office to ask them if they have it - they are very good about sending photocopies, and don't charge the earth for them.

Must admit I haven't tried contacting the Record Office - probably due to expensive experiences elsewhere in the past. I'll email them and see what they say and post the result here, so that BumbleB knows whether I still need help.

I've just looked on the Lichfield Record Office website. It seems it will cost me £5.50 to get a copy of the will and probate. Pretty much along the lines you might expect, I suppose.

BumbleB, if you are still able/willing to do this for me, please keep it in mind for your next visit. If you would prefer me to contact the Record Office direct, then just say the word and I'll do it.

Thanks,

Jane

Sorry for the delay in responding.  I'm in Spain and have been without WiFi for the past few days.  I'm going to Lichfield when I get home, probably next week.  As I have to get a photo licence, I'll get you a copy of the probate.  I'll be in touch again when I've done the deed.
