Passenger list for "Webber" arr Melbourne 1862
« on: Sunday 09 September 12 12:59 BST (UK) »
I am searching for the passenger list for "Webber", which arrived in Melbourne, Australia, in Oct 1862.  My gt grandfather, Lars Hansen was on board, as well as perhaps another relative.  He was from Denmark, but I don't know if he could have sailed from Hamburg.  Would appreciate any help.

http://prov.vic.gov.au/research
 - shipping and other records for Victoria can be found here.

There was a ship D.F. Weber Senr. that arrived Oct 1862; aboard was a "J" Hansen, 27, a Mrs Hansen, 28, and a child, 2 (according to the transcription). This ship sailed from Hamburg.

Unfortunately that isn't my family, as Lars married in Bendigo in 1866.  Thank you for your quick reply.

I believe that first hit is for Captain Webber of the Silas Greenman, not a ship Webber.

Is it possible he came as a sailor/worked his passage?

I do appreciate the various messages.  I was wondering if he could have been a crew member.  Many years ago my Mother mentioned that her grandfather was a sea captain, but as I am finding out, the family folk lore is a lot different to the real story!!  Also interested to find out if Lars travelled with a Niels Hansen.
