Wesleyan chapel, Edgbaston
« on: Tuesday 11 September 12 13:50 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather was married in The Wesleyan Chapel, Sandon Road, Edgbaston in 1896. I have found a reference to the chapel in the VCH for Birmingham, but I cannot locate the chapel. I have followed Google Street View along Sandon Road and the only possibility is the Methodist Church. Can anyone locate the chapel for me? Is the Methodist Church the old chapel? Any help gratefully accepted.

I've just located the chapel on the 1888 OS map (despite a certain web site's efforts to stop us using their maps) and I suspect that the chapel has been demolished. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Hi
I think this is it
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ell-r-brown/7080116857/

There is a pdf document here
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0r0p/
which says "...a small Wesleyan Chapel, which later
became the Sunday School for the new Methodist church at the north end of
Barnsley Road" so perhaps it is the old building just left of the newer church? The pdf is slow to download but has an 1890 map which is worth a look.

Many thanks Gardener.
I think that you might have found it. It certainly looks and sounds promising. I'll investigate.

I've just studied the OS maps on the pdf and I'm convinced that you have found it. Thank you so much. I now have a photograph as well.
I really appreciate your help.

I've just been in contact with a representative of the Methodist church and he confirms that you are correct Gardener. Again, thank you so much for your help.Tofgem
