Parish Marriage Look up - All Saints, Newcastle-COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 11 September 12 19:53 BST (UK) »
Two marriages actually, I am trying to ascertain if either (or both) of these marriages have the groom's father as John Anderson (who died in 1845 but his occupation was Slater). There is an outside possibility that the groom is the same person for both marriages. The Matthew I am looking for was born c1823

1 last quarter of 1848 Matthew ANDERSON and Mary GRAY

2 last quarter of 1862 Matthew ANDERSON and Margaret COLLINGWOOD

If anyone has the time to check the marriage register for All Saints whilst at TWAS or Woodhorn, I would very much appreciate it

Thank you

Boo

Hi,

The parish records for those years (All Saints) are on the Familysearch website.  You do have to browse page by page, but it's free :)

The parish records for those years (All Saints) are on the Familysearch website.

Do you mean the Bishops Transcripts?

If so, there are hardly any post-1837 marriages on there - only baptisms and burials.

Thanks for the suggestion Trini but I checked there first and, as as JenB says, marriages for the years I would like aren't there.

I did check the Newcastle registrars site and that does say that both of these marriages took place at All Saints.

Sorry, Boo

I didn't check.  Just saw that the Bishops Transcripts covered those years :(

Familysearch does say the 1848 marriage has Groom's father as John (Bride's father as William Gray).

Good luck with your search :)

Thanks Trini
and don't be sorry, I didn't say 'where' I had already looked so your suggestion was valid.
I am hoping that the record in the parish register will also give father's occupations. There were more Matthew and John Andersons at the right time in the right areas over the years that you could shake half a dozen sticks at! Its going to take a lot of detail and checking to be sure I have the correct ones.

Totally agree!

I've got one who was an Ag Lab on one census....a Tailor on the next!
Frustrating and difficult, but makes me ferret away more.  In one instance, it took me 12 years to find someone, so keep at it.....you never know :)

Good luck.
