Hello,

I checked the 1851 census and the wife is Eleanor (or variation).
Interestingly it also states that Catherine was born in Durham.

I then checked the birth records and there is one possible :

Catherine O'Neill,
June quarter1847
Ref 24-167

If you apply for the certificate giving the parents' names they will check that this is the correct Catherine.  From the certificate you will get the mother's maiden name so this will help with the marriage search in Ireland

Hi Sansgrounder.
I have now found maiden name of Catharine's mother. Her name is Ellen Hughes. I guess Henry Oneill and Ellen/Elanor Hughes would have been married in Armagh about 1845. I have searched on Irish Foundation for the church  marriage in Armagh but alas no name matches and couldn't afford to search further. Isn't it expensive??? Well at least I have a maiden name.

Sorry, I have only just read your last message.  If you contact the Gateshad registry office about the birth certificate for Catherine you can ask them only to send it if the relevant parents are correct.  They may charge a small fee for the look up.

Hello Lyttle.
Sorry about delayed reply just managed to open my mail, machine probs........

Thanks for the info on Charles. This could be an interesting lead back to Ireland and will work on it. The 1845 Charlie came over to England with his dad Henry at the start of the blight. He married and stayed here, all  his kids were born here and stayed here. Lots of the Oneil clan came over but I'm sure not all.
