Unknown Leeds Ancestor- photo date and age of subject please.
« on: Wednesday 12 September 12 21:21 BST (UK) »
Hi
This photo is probably of a relative but I can't identify it.
It was taken at Fieldings, 12 Albion Place, Leeds.
Can anyone help with an approximate date of the photo or an estimate of the lady's age?
Many thanks
Sue

I'd say it was taken in the 1920s and she looks to be in her early twenties.

Nice photo!
Heather  :)

p.s.  she's wearing a ring on her wedding finger tho I can't see if it's a wedding band or an engagement ring

I think it is a wedding ring - and certainly looks like a 'flapper' dress from the 20's doesn't it ?

- great photo!

Yes I agree on both counts Wiggy  ;D...I would say she was in her 20s too.

Thanks all of you. I did think the long pearl necklace looked like the 1920s. I guess this means that the lady was born around 1900 which might give a clue to her identity.

Just some more verification: The vase in the background is very Art Deco (1920s to early 1930s) and I don't believe wristwatches were popular until the early 1920s.

I would lean towards the latter end of the decades, maybe 1925-1930, because her fashion seems sort of transitional. Flappers tended to have very definite makeup (dark lips, dark eyes) and the cut of her dress, while very 1920s because of the beadwork, seems to have the cut and silhouette more similar to 1930s wear.

Very nice photograph.

It is a lovely picture !  :) :)

Hopefully of some use - Fieldings, the company who took the image were also known to be theatrical photographers.
Here are just a couple of links to their work :

Could the photo have been taken for professional reasons ?
