FJ Foot(e)
« on: Sunday 16 September 12 18:29 BST (UK) »
Frederick John Foot was born in 1895 and enlisted 17/11/1915 with the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry at Saltash. He was wounded and died 6/5/1927 when he plate moved and gangrene set in. His number was 23812 and I wonder if there is anyway to find out where he was injured and about his time in the army?

He was awarded a silver war badge - http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=2456&iid=wo329_3021-00202&fn=Frederick+John&ln=Foot&st=r&ssrc=&pid=184186 - but it does not give his battalion. His discharge was after the armistice but he could have been getting treatment for months before the discharge, so it will be tricky finding out when he was wounded if his service record has not survived.

All you can tell from his number was that it was not a Territorial battalion - as they were given six-digit ones in 1917.

Someone on the Great War Forum may be able to tell you his battalion from the number and enlistment date.

Hi Mark

If you have the time you could go through the local newspapers as lists of the wounded were published.
