Hello everyone,

So I'm Anthony Hick, I was in St Mary's in Kippax yesterday trying to locate my Great Grandparents' grave.

My late Father was Peter Hick, son of George Hick. George, his wife Doreen and daughter susan moved south before the war and settled in Hillmorton in Rugby. Dad(Peter) 1945-2007 was born in Rugby but christened in St Mary's, Kippax.

Granddad George had 2 sisters and a brother as far as I know. I have Samuel as a middle name after great granddad - who we believe was a Methodist preacher.

My parents spent time looking around the church yard in the late 90s and found the grave, along with a few of the family. However, it seems a lot of them have fallen over since then and I was unable to relocate my great grandparents' graves. I did manage to find a number of Hicks in the churchyard though, although I have no idea if they are relations. William (the blacksmith) is the only one that I believe I'm directly related to.

Can anyone connect the dots? If you can help in anyway that would be amazing.

Thanks

A

Mante46, I'm sure there was more than one blacksmith in the family, but Samuel, the preacher, was  the village blacksmith. You may have seen a book about him online: [url]https://archive.org/details/villageblacksm00ever/url]
It's fairly easy to get a copy on disc, or a hard copy.
This is a line of the family tree that I really need to pay some attention to!

To clarky666, You said you have the full family tree of Samuel and would share it. I am new to this site. Please, how might I see that tree? Thank you!  :)

I read on one of these posts that the book about Sam named 10 of the 13 children.  I have quickly perused the book but not found such a list. Would someone please help me - is there a specific page or chapter you can refer?  Thank you!

Thanks for that Hick4262 - I have anecdotal to that effect, but nothing concrete to show that Charles was his son - Ann and Rosamund are mentioned in the biography mentioned in other posts, but I have found no parish or other records to indicate that Charles was Samuel's son.
Charles apparent year of birth ix c1801 according to his census returns, but I've found no parish records to confirm this. The date of death is easier to verify with the death certificate. If I can definitely link Charles as Samuel's son, then I have a direct line back to Samuel for my other half.

Hi to all interested in Samuel Hick - I am trying to determine what relationship we have with Samuel also.  There are so many Samuels, Charles, Roberts, and Georges that it is proving to be quite confusing and frustrating.  Someone on here (clarky666?) said they have the family tree of Samuel, and if so, PLEASE tell me how I can see it.  Also, someone said there are 10 of the 13 children mentioned in the book.  Might these be the 12 siblings of Samuel rather than his children?  The book mentions at least two daughters names.  Our connection is:  Pirl Hick>Walter Hick>Charles Hick (b 1814)> Robert Hick > Robert Hick> and possibly a George Hick after that but there is conflicting evidence really after Charles when I see other individual's family trees.  I would really appreciate any information and assistance anyone can give.  Thank you!  I suspect all the Hick families were related, but it's so difficult to construct this tree.  Also, does anyone know if the name was ever spelled Hicks or Hickes?  When in Aberford and going through old church records, we found some in the 1600s with those spellings.  Thanks again!

I'm still battling with the Hick family!  I have Charles Hick, married Aley?Alice Smales on 1 December 1828 in Rothwell. Their two youngest children were born after 1837, and on their birth registrations mother's maiden name is given as Smales, so I'm fairly confident that I have the correct marriage.
Census returns and death certificate (1881) all estimate his birth as c1801. I can find no sign of a baptism, but wouldn't expect to if he was from a non-conformist family.
However, there's a statement on a Select Removal and Settlement Record from 1840, given by his father - Joseph, a blacksmith in Kippax......   Any pointers would be really gratefully received!
