I grew up at Barnfield, halfway between Blaenafon & Forge-Side ... have moved to the other mountain now  :)

PM me their names - I may know them

I have been (albeit briefly) to Talgarth Church some years ago ... I did see some Prossers there but they were the family of Samuel Prosser (1780-1855) & his wife Catherine who resided at the Great House .... although they may be relatives this isn't "the" Samuel Prosser from whom I'm directly descended - he is buried at Llanelly Hill, Brecs

I'm sure that I heard/read that there was a Prosser family "expert" still in Talgarth but can't remember who

However, anything to do with the Prosser family may help me

Thanks again
Rich

I volunteer at the Tourist Info Centre in Talgarth once a week, Rich, so I can ask if anyone knows about a Prosser 'expert' - the old ladies (and the not so old) seem to know everything about the place!  We get a lot of people coming in from America, Australia and NZ looking for their Talgarth roots.

Will get back to you if/when I get anything of use to you.

You are right Rich, there are a lot of Prossers in the churchyard, both ancient and modern.  A lot of the older ones have reference to Great House so I discounted those.  This is one which refers to a farm, Cefn Nant,  so there might be some connection with your family.

Had to reduce size of photo so wording not v distinct I'm afraid.  It reads:

To the memory of
Samuel Prosser
of Cefn-Nant in this Parish
who died on
September 30th 1853 (I think that date is correct but will check when I go back)
aged 43 years

Thank you for doing that

I think that this Samuel Prosser is the son of Samuel Prosser of the Great House who died in 1863 - I remember finding his death record when I was going down the wrong Prosser line  (for a few months!!)

I think that the key to my initial post lies back in the 18th century - if I could only find the father of Samuel Prosser (b 1785/6)

Appreciated
Rich

I'm going back to the churchyard; this was just a cursory glance whilst walking the dog but it was raining hence a short visit.  There are a lot of quite ancient stones there but I think there might be a problem with legibility.  I'll let you know what I find.

Hello again Rich.  In my wanderings around the churchyard in Talgarth today I found another Prosser gravestone.

This one was in memory of Walter Prosser, infant son of Thomas Prosser of Tredustan, Talgarth,  who died in 1758, and also Evan son of Thomas Prosser, born 1761 and died 1765.  Any chance these could be some of your Prossers?

Incidentally I also found on the internet an entry relating to a Thomas Prosser, Wheelwright, of Pontybat, Llandevalley (now known as Llandefalle, a village close to Talgarth) who was a trustee of the Tredustan United Reform Chapel at Talgarth which I believe was constructed in about 1761.

Regards,
GS

It may take  a while, but you might find something useful here.

Lots of  Prosser wills , including some at Talgarth.
