I can find a couple of reports where Abraham is charged with petty theft, the latter of which places him as a cook on the Steamship Devon in Avonmouth in late 1880(he stole a leg of pork from the kitchen). This ship was owned by the Great Western Steamship company from 1878 to 1886.It may be the same ship that is in Australian waters in March 1881 ,but Abraham is not amongst the crew.

Regards
Roger

Wow that's great.  What a naughty boy!  The leg of pork wasn't for his wife and kids!
That is very helpful to know that he was at sea between approx. 1871- 1891.
Must have had some home leave as his wife Elizabeth Caroline was looking after their 5 children,
.
And yes you found her in 1881 and Robert Coombs was her father.  In 1871 living in Bristol she is alone with their two small children.
Cheers
