Bankruptcy Proceedings
« on: Thursday 20 September 12 21:55 BST (UK) »
???I looked under Rhydcymerau, Llansawel on the  net and an extract from the May edition of 1881 London Gazette listed that John Jenkins was to appear at a court in Lampeter in June. On the charge of Bankruptcy. Can someone tell me how to find the result of the hearing.

John Jenkins was an Inn keeper(the Cart and Horses) a cattle dealer and a Farmer.

I am his great grand daughter.

This has never been mentioned in the family and he continued to run the Inn until  at least1911 Census. So I would really like to find what the outcome of the charge was. yasmina4

Go to the London Gazette search page at http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/search

Choose search by date. Then be a bit imaginative with search terms - the documents are computer digitised and sometimes it's a bit iffy. Chances are there will have been more than one hearing; there may also be announcements of dividends when the creditors get some of their money.

Try also the British Newspaper Archive - again some smart searching needed for the same reasons, curiously bankrupts were reported far and wide, so if you can't find him in a local paper, he may even be reported in Manchester! http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/advanced

...and it's always worth asking the local archives service:
