COMPLETED George Joshua Twite c1847 Grimstone
« on: Saturday 22 September 12 16:20 BST (UK) »
George was born in 1847 (Freebridge Lynn Reg District) and I am seeking his baptism. On the 1851 Census he is a visitor at the home of Anthony /Elizabeth Twite in Grimstone and ten years later he is still there but described as their grandson. I am surmising that George's birth parents had died. In later life he was known as George Joshua Gamble Twite, if that is a clue. Unfortunately Grimstone does not appear on freereg for that date nor in the collection of  Norfolk parishes on familysearch nor at SoG. I am hoping that Rootschat may save me having to apply to GRO for the certificate.

Hello Taylor,

Some Bishops Transcripts are online for Grimston - but a bit hit and miss.

Found some between 1844 and 1848, and there are a few Twite/Twaites baptisms.

The only George I could find was baptised illegitimately by ... well, it looks like Happy Thwaite.

COMPLETED
Happy Twite was the daughter of Anthony/Elizabeth Twite and appears as such on the 1841 Census. George was her illegitimate child. She married in 1850 to John Goll but it doesnt look as if George lived with them for very long.
Thanks so much.

Hello

There were Gambles living in Grimston including a George Gamble who was about the same age as Happy. This George married in 1850 and was living in nearby Middleton by 1851. Just a thought. :)

My great grandfather Edward Twite was one of Happy's brothers.
Gilding, Eagle, Perry, Wright, Twite, Cooper, Gibson and Ramm in West & Central Norfolk.
Littlewood, Bacon, Oxley and Fairbrother in North East Essex.

Thanks for that. We will never know for sure but it seems highly likely that they had a fling. My interest in Twite history was sparked by a neighbour whose grandmother was Florence Phoebe Elizabeth Twite (1874-1927). I said I would try to find where she came from, hence my finding the Norfolk connection
