Still looking for... (October 2012)
« on: Monday 24 September 12 11:48 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm not sure if I am allowed to ask for lookups in the next census after 1901 yet, so please forgive me if I ask and I'm not supposed to.

I was wondering if anyone would be allowed to help me find a

William Spence
born in Ireland in 1864
was in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire in 1901
age 30
Hammerman
Lodger
married (but she was in Ireland)

We believe he was still in Scotland in the next census.

We know he died in 1948.

So he'd be about 40, probably lodging somewhere and again without his wife and family.

Many thanks if someone can find him.

Kind regards

I think the 1911 Scottish census is pay to view via Scotland's People. It is not on Ancestry - unsure about FInd My Past. And I still don't think you are allowed to request 1911 lookups - I have no idea when, if ever, that is going to change.  :)

Hi

The 1911 Scottish census doesn't have the same lookup restrictions as the England & Wales census but is only available online on Scotlandspeople which is a pay per view site not a subscription site.
It is accessable in person in Edinburgh and possibly other Scottish locations.

There are 16 people of that name and approximate age in Scotland but only 1 in Dunbartonshire, in Old Kilpatrick. You would need to use credits on Scotlandspeople to check more details to see if it is yours

Hi

I am going to the Mitchell Library Family History Centre on Wednesday (3rd Oct)
and am happy to look up the details of the Old Kilpatrick census record if it would help.
