Marriage at St Elisabeth's Stockport
« on: Tuesday 25 September 12 10:35 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find the father's name and any other details of Edward Condon who married Elizabeth Bowler June quarter 1903 at St Elisabeth's Reddish Stockport. I am hoping the father is David Condon

1881 census  I have an Edward Condon aged 4  with his family  where it says he was born in Wakefield  Parents David and Sarah Condon both born Ireland.
1891 The family are in Gorton Manchester Edward is aged 15
1901 The family are still in Gorton but I can not find Edward.
1903 I am hoping this marriage at St Elisabeth's is the same Edward.
1911 in Gorton Edward 32 with Elizabeth 33 Sydney 7 and Ada 5 Edward states he was born "at sea"
I can not find a birth for Edward Condon.
I hope someone can help.   Thanks svb

FindMyPast index has "Registers of born at Sea"  for Edward Condon - c.1876 - father Timothy,  you can see this much without subscription or credits.

The record of the birth at sea (on the Bebington, 19 May 1876, of a son to Timothy Condon and Margaret Garman) does not state a given name for the child.

Sorry svb111,

It was my own search criteria where I'd seen the name "Edward"

He does seem to be rather elusive!

How about this for a roundabout research idea?

In 1901 (if it is the correct family) there is a brother David F Condon born 1884.

This could be his birth

David Francis Condon
Apr-Jun Q1883 Chorlton  8c 761

If that was his brother then that birth cert should give a maiden name for the mother. You could then try to track down the parents marriage and work forward.

Or - perhaps Edward was registered under the mother's maiden name rather than Condon

All ended up Ardwick, Manchester

In 1891 there is another Edward Condon born 1879 who may be a better fit for the Edward you have in 1911. It matches the birth date given in 1911 exactly and there is a history of foreign travel.

RG12/3175/11/16

13 Stanley Street, Gorton

Michael Condon 47 head general labourer born Ireland
Eliza Condon 44 wife b Dorset Bridport
Michael Condon 23 son b Aldershot Hampshire
Harry Condon 20 son ??  b Ireland
Eliza A Condon 18 dau general labourer b East Indies ?
Thomas Condon 15 son labourer b East Indies ?
Edward Condon 12 son labourer b Sunderland Northumberland
Frances Condon 1 son labourer b Manchester Lancashire

It says he was born Northumberland but the two children just before him were born East Indies and the ones before that are Aldershot and Ireland so does show the family travelled and perhaps this edward could have been born at sea. Those locations suggest some kind of military connection although father Michae's occupation 1891 is labourer.

I can't see a birth for this Edward registered in Sunderland or Northumberland on FreeBMD.
I can't see him in 1901 or 1911 (unless he is the one you have already)

Are you hoping to find father David match with the earlier census or do you specifically know that the father should be David?

Just at thought

The Edward Condon marriage shows his father as Michael John Condon, occupation Machine Man.
Edward himself is a 24 year old builder, this could tie in very well with the 1891 census that Milly gave you.
I do have the full details of the marriage if you want them.
