we have just seen a programme on television regarding the young boys who died in the 2nd world war whilst serving with the merchant navy
can anybody give me any more information on a g.ferrie who died in 1943 aged 16
he was serving aboard the merchant ship m.v.hughli
and was buried in edinburgh possibly
the reason is that my wife,s maiden name is ferrie born in edinburgh and she was wondering if this person could be family

i had just found that and that he is actually buried in calcutta not edinburgh
now can anybody find out anything about peter aitken ferrie and annie ferrie george's parents

George Ferrie died in hospital in Calcutta from Enteric Fever, a name for Typhoid. His home address was 194 Duke Street, Glasgow.

 He was born in Glasgow 04/03/1927

Monica,
 At least 500 boys of the Merchant Navy age 16 and under died in the service of their country during WW2. There are probably many more who were not recorded who have no known grave but the sea, together with those whose minds were scared for their lifetime as a result of the horrors they experienced.
The youngest one who died was Reginald Earnshaw. He was just  14 years, 151 days old when he met his demise.
